Alberta Culture Days Funding for Online Events

Alberta Culture Days has announced that they will be distributing grants for community organizations hosting a virtual or small in-person cultural event from September 1st through 30th, 2020.

Alberta Culture Days is part of National Culture Days, which encourages communities to discover, experience, and celebrate arts and culture through local events and activities. Alberta Culture Days is encouraging applicants to plan online events to accommodate restrictions on in-person gatherings.

Applications for the 2020 Alberta Culture Days grant are now open and will close on July 16. There will be three grant amounts available based on how many days during the month of September the organization will be hosting culturally-related programming.

  • Feature Sites – any 3 days, up to $10,000

  • Host Sites – any 2 days, up to $5,000

  • Pop Up Sites – any 1 day, up to $1,000

To be eligible, an applicant must be a community nonprofit organization registered under one of the following:

  • Provincial legislation

  • Federal legislation

  • A First Nations or Metis Settlement in Alberta

  • A University, college or institute as defined in Alberta’s Post-Secondary Learning Act

Municipalities are not eligible to apply. The event being funded must be free to participants or attendees, but the funds may be used for a variety of costs including but not limited to:

  • Paying an Albertan artist for a workshop or performance

  • Event materials

  • Marketing and communications

  • Technology costs
