The following is a list of flood recovery resources available for nonprofits, businesses and individuals. Priority listing has been given to long-term recovery funding and programs, as well as donated legal, insurance and health and wellness services.

January 28, 2014 - Nonprofit/Voluntary Sector Special Flood Recovery Program
Alberta Culture announced today a 2-year commitment to provide an additional $4 M in funding for flood-impacted nonprofits and arts groups through the CIP and CFEP programs. This funding uses the existing CIP/CFEP guidelines and applications. This special funding is intended to address costs associated with flood impacts not covered by insurance or the Disaster Recovery Program. Costs may be associated with damage to infrastructure, relocation expenses, an increase in operational costs or an increase in demand for programs and services from clientele who experienced significant loss or trauma as a result of the floods.
The Calgary Foundation’s Flood Rebuilding Fund is now accepting applications from charitable organizations in Calgary and area. Flood Rebuilding Fund Grants support qualified donees in all parts of the charitable sector. To determine whether your organization is a qualified donee, visit the Canada Revenue Agency’s website. Alberta Disaster Recovery Programs
Disaster recovery programs offer financial help to those who have property that was damaged as the result of a disaster. The intent of the program is to help return essential property to its basic function. It does not provide financial assistance for items that can be covered by another means, such as insurance.

Hand-Up Plan: Alberta Flood Recovery Loan Guarantee Program and Interest Rebate Program
The Hand-up Plan provides immediate financial assistance for eligible small businesses, agricultural producers and not-for-profit organizations severely impacted by the June 2013 floods in southern Alberta and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Government is working to provide low-interest loans partially guaranteed by the province as well as interest rebates to affected organizations. Applications are being accepted now until December 31, 2013.

Small Business Rebuilding Program
Businesses with 21 to 50 full time employees (FTE) are eligible for funding through this program. It complements the DRP and Hand-Up programs.

Canadian Red Cross Recovery Assistance
Canadian Red Cross are providing support through a community grant process, collaborating and coordinating with other community groups to address special urgent needs such as: funding food banks; supporting homeless shelters for youth; assisting community centres that are operating for the relief effort; and identifying opportunities and implementing strategies to incorporate other Red Cross programs into the response effort such as Violence, Bullying and Abuse Prevention programs, Health Equipment Loan programs and First Aid. Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta (EDA)
Offering small businesses and agricultural operation assistance in applying for the Disaster Recovery Program (DRP) administered by the Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA). AFSC Alberta Flood Recovery Loan Program

Offers a loan guarantee program to secure small business loans against inadvertent non-compliance with payment terms for a range of reasons, including disasters.

Service Canada Work Sharing Program - Government of Canada
Work-Sharing (WS) is an adjustment program designed to help employers and employees avoid layoffs when there is a temporary reduction in the normal level of business activity that is beyond the control of the employer. The measure provides income support to employees eligible for Employment Insurance benefits who work a temporarily reduced work week while their employer recovers. 1-866-891-5319 (TTY: 1-800-926-9105).
Canadian Heritage Museums Assistance Program
Open to all incorporated non-profit Canadian museums, eligible activities include moving at-risk collections by professional staff and temporary storage expenses.

Elephant Artist Relief: Individual Artist Fund
Elephant Fund can provide assistance to a visual artist residing in Calgary or surrounding area who is in urgent need due to an unforeseen medical emergency or other catastrophic event.

Calgary Arts Development - Alberta Arts Rebuild
Applications to the Alberta Arts Flood Rebuild Fund are now open to both individuals and organizations affected by the 2013 Alberta floods. This program is intended to provide relief funding to cover short- to mid-term needs, namely unrecoverable costs, restoration costs and unrealized revenues. Please note that this round of funding is not meant to address restoration or repair costs related to venue, residence, office or studio. The deadline for applications is September 9, 2013, with notifications emailed to applicants on September 23, 2013.

Flood assistance payments (including pre-loaded debit cards) for Albertans who can't return to the place they live. Those who qualify receive $1,250 per adult and $500 per child to help pay for the costs of being away from home.

City of Calgary
Until Sept. 2, all City landfills will accept flood-damaged waste at no charge. Starting Sept. 3rd, regular landfill rates will apply. Starting Sept. 3rd, Waste & Recycling Services trucks will return to normal waste collection in flood-affected neighbourhoods and will no longer provide special collection of flood-related garbage from front curbs.

Many banks and credit unions are providing extended credit, low interest loans, mortgage and loan deferrals and other supports to flood victims (organizations, businesses and individuals). Please check with your bank to see how they can assist you.

Offering the following to personal banking customers: overdraft, MasterCard credit limit increases, payment deferrals, and investment redemptions. For business and Agriculture clients: loan deferrals and short-term loans (defer loan payments for up to 12 months, borrow up to $50,000 for six months, increase their credit limit, to a maximum of $50,000). Offering flexibility to affected customers through payment deferrals on loans, mortgages and credit cards, and fee reimbursement for unplanned transactions. Personal and Small Business customers who are affected by the flooding can call 1-800-472-6842.
