Awards to celebrate innovation of Alberta nonprofits

Charities and nonprofits are often quietly at the forefront of finding creative solutions to social and environment problems. CCVO (Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations) will again celebrate this creative spirit and showcase nonprofit innovation in action at the Alberta Nonprofit Innovation Awards on October 3 in Calgary.

“These awards act as a catalyst to help surface innovative practices across the sector and tell the stories of the amazing nonprofits that are making a difference in communities across the province” says David Mitchell, President & CEO at CCVO. “We’re looking forward to celebrating all of the top ten finalists’ and announcing the three 2019 Alberta Nonprofit Innovation Award recipients this week.”

This year’s finalists have found inventive ways to address enduring social and environmental issues in our province. They represent examples of unique collaborative partnerships, game-changing ways of operating, and inventive service offerings to show how nonprofits are stepping up with the desire and action to truly do things differently in bold and meaningful ways.

The 2019 Alberta Nonprofit Innovation Award top ten finalists are:

Aspen Family & Community Network Society

Centre for Newcomers

CUPS

Fresh Routes

Give a Mile

Goodwill Industries of Alberta

Immigrant Services Calgary

Indefinite Arts Centre

Land Stewardship Centre of Canada

Shared Intake and Referral Program (a collaboration of Discovery House, The Brenda Strafford Centre, and Sonshine Community Services)

“By sharing these stories, we applaud these ground-breaking organizations – and we hope to stimulate others. We know that innovation is a mindset, not an outcome; it stems from a desire to do things better to improve the outcomes for our communities. With this outlook, the possibilities for our province are almost limitless” says Mitchell.

The Alberta Nonprofit Innovation Awards are made possible by Cenovus Energy and vGood.
