Government of Alberta Announces Industry Panels to Cut Red Tape

The Government of Alberta has formed industry panels to identify red tape reduction measures across various sectors. As part of the Red Tape Reduction Strategy, the government is aiming to cut what it calls ‘regulatory burdens’ by one-third along with the time required for regulatory decisions to be made.

 The industry panels are meant to:

  • help government identify the regulatory burdens that hold back the respective sectors

  • provide direct feedback to the associate minister of red rape reduction on current and upcoming initiatives

  • work to improve every area of Alberta’s economy to promote job growth in a way that is safe and efficient for every Albertan and their families

 The first 2 panels that have been announced are Tourism and Hospitality, and Oil and Gas. The government indicated that there will be a nonprofit panel of nonprofit leaders, which will be announced in the future. In addition to the red tape reduction panels, the government has also launched a Red Tape Challenge website to seek public input on how to cut regulatory requirements across the board.
