Alberta nonprofits call for $30 million in emergency funds to keep sector afloat

Members of Alberta’s nonprofit community stood alongside business leaders at carya Village Commons on Tuesday to call for an urgent one-time cash injection of $30 million from the provincial government to keep the nonprofit sector afloat.

The ask for an urgent, one-time top-up of $30 million comes as nonprofits across Alberta juggle heightened demand for services with increasingly complex client needs while revenues decrease.

CCVO Supports Imagine Canada’s 2021 Federal Pre-Budget Submission

The House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance launched its pre-budget consultations process and invited Canadians to participate by submitting a brief. The Committee asked Canadians for their insight about economic growth – more specifically, “measures the federal government could take to restart the Canadian economy, as it recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.” We are grateful for Imagine Canada’s leadership in developing a list of recommendations that represent the needs of the nonprofit sector and are supportive of a Sector Resilience Grant Program. Alberta Government Fiscal Update

The Alberta government provided a fiscal update yesterday, the first one from this government since assuming office a little more than four months ago. The update was given by Finance Minister, Travis Toews. Nonprofits, as many others, were likely looking to the update to provide some clarity and certainty after the many funding challenges that we’ve been hearing from nonprofits in the last few months, some of which have been reported in media.
